DESCRIPTION:As an owner or manager\, do you have questions about labor laws and the FLSA? Have no idea what the FLSA is?\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDuring this session the attendees will learn about common violations under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and what you can do to avoid them. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThis seminar will be facilitated by Lucy Garcia\, Community Outreach and Resource Planning Specialist for the US Department of Labor.\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nHer presentation will start PROMPTLY at 8\, as doors will be open at 7:30 am to grab some breakfast\, sponsored by Primrose School of Conroe and grab a seat.\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe FLSA affects most private and public employment. The FLSA requires employers to pay covered non-exempt employees at least the federal minimum wage and overtime pay for all hours worked over 40 in a work week. Covered employees must be paid for all hours worked in a workweek. In general\, compensable hours worked include all time an employee is on duty or at a prescribed place of work and any time that an employee is suffered or permitted to work. This would generally include work performed at home\, travel time\, waiting time\, training\, and probationary periods.\n\n\n\nIn 2006\, Lucy Garcia joined the U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division as an Investigator in the New Orleans District Office and currently serves as the Community Outreach and Resource Planning Specialist in the Houston District Office. Ms. Garcia has a broad base of Wage and Hour experience by conducting investigations under the Fair Labor Standards Act\, Government Contracts labor standards statutes\, the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act\, the Family and Medical Leave Act and additional enforcement under The Immigration Reform and Control Act.\n\n\n\nMs. Garcia has received numerous Worker Protection Awards from the Secretary of Labor and has conducted over 1000 outreach events to proactively engage employers\, employees and communities to ensure they are aware of the resources available to assist them in understanding their rights and responsibilities under the law enforced by the U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division.
