Membership Luncheon
Speaker: Ashley Taylor, Tri-County Behavioral Healthcare Veteran Services Liaison
Topic: Veteran Services
The Veteran Services program enhances access to services for Veterans through community education and individual mentorship. Our mentor program is operated with support from the Texas Veterans Commission’s Military Veteran Peer Network (http://www.tvc.state.tx.us/Military-Veteran-Peer-Network.aspx). The program was created to improve access to mental health services, but over the years it has evolved with connecting Veterans to basically anything. The most awesome thing about this program is that it is not only here in our area, we are scattered throughout the state all attached to the Local Mental Health Authorities or Community Centers (http://txcouncil.com/about-community-centers/).
Bio: Ashley is the Veteran Services Liaison for Tri-County Behavioral Healthcare. She joined Tri-County in the fall of 2014. As the Veteran Service Liaison, her main focus is coordinating the state’s premiere mental health program for Veterans. Funded by the Department of State Health Services and supported by executive staff at the Texas Veterans Commission, the Military Veteran Peer Network works to enhance access to services for Veterans. This is accomplished by creating a network of peers and services with the goal of bridging gaps between awareness and the unknown. Ashley is an Army Veteran who served two Iraq deployments. She finished her enlistment as a Sergeant with three Army Commendation Medals, an Army Achievement Medal, two good conduct medals, and a Combat Action Badge. After her service she completed her bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from University of Maryland University College and her master’s degree in Human Behavior from Capella University. Ashley currently resides in Spring (Montgomery County) with her husband who is an Army Veteran and their two dogs.
