Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber, Montgomery Area Chamber merge
March 6, 2024 - (Conroe, TX) - The boards of directors of the Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce and the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce (MACC) each unanimously voted in February to pursue a merger of the two organizations. The votes followed several weeks of discussions between the two chambers about combining forces.
"Ultimately, this move provides members of both chambers with an expanded network to grow their businesses," said Scott Harper, President of the Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber. "Our Chamber is celebrating 90 years of serving the Montgomery County business community and we look forward to welcoming the MACC members into our growing Chamber family."
"While both chambers share many members, this merger will bring businesses in and around the city of Montgomery into a combined network that will only further the business growth in the region," said Jennifer Millington, Chairman of the Chamber. "With over 1,000 members, the Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber is excited to broaden its footprint and provide networking, marketing, professional development, and advocacy resources to help businesses grow."
Under the agreed plan, the governing board of MACC will be dissolved and the name of the merged chambers will be the Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber. The Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber board will leverage the former MACC board for support throughout the transition.
The former MACC members will immediately be recognized as Chamber members. After a full year of honoring their existing membership rate, the former MACC members would then transition to the Chamber's membership rate in 2025. There are approximately 240 current MACC members, with about 30 percent who are already members of both chambers.
The current MACC staff will be retained as part of the Chamber's existing staff and will continue supporting the Montgomery community along with new roles associated with the combined chambers.
Harper said that work is already under way to partner with the City of Montgomery and Montgomery County to provide a highly-visible welcome/visitor's center in the heart of downtown Montgomery.
"While we will become more efficient by combining the operations side of the Chamber, we are committed to maintaining our Montgomery presence through our signature events and new exciting opportunities that will showcase Montgomery businesses," said MACC President Shannan Reid. "The members of both chambers will see the advantages of belonging to a bigger network of businesses."
"The merger is a strategic move to amplify exposure, broaden networks, and ensure tangible, lasting benefits for all our valued members. In joining forces, we're not just expanding membership; we're enriching the value proposition for every member," said Brent Stokes, MACC's Board Chairman.
Harper said that, while the merger is now legally complete, both chambers will use the month of March to consolidate operations and create a seamless transition for its members.
